Mama Pea Stephanie of Peas in a Pod Blog

Hi Everyone!

I don't know anyone in this group, so please allow me to introduce myself! I'm Stephanie, AKA Mama Pea, of Peas in a Pod blog. I took my first quilting class when I was a junior in high school....that was in 1986! Wow! That's a while ago! I loved piecing the top, but I hated hand quilting...probably because no one really took the time to teach that part well. So, I put it away and didn't come back to sewing and quilting until much later...about 2002. I still love piecing, still don't know how to hand quilt (though it is a goal), and I'm learning to free motion quilt on my home sewing machine. I really hope to buy a long-arm quilting machine some day.

I currently live in Michigan. I have lived there for about 2 years now. Prior to that, I have lived in Idaho, Ohio, Utah, and Washington. I grew up in Iowa. I miss the west and our horses that we sold when we moved back to the midwest. But it is good to be back in the midwest!

I have always wanted to make a two color quilt....especially a red-and-white quilt. I'm thinking of a little, scrappy, Jo Morton quilt for this project, but I've NEVER engaged in a bee before, so that may change. I want to see what everyone else is doing to give me some inspiration.

Maybe something with this book. This photo is from Amazon...if you want to see more about this book, please visit this link!

I got invited to play along with this group through Shelly of Prairie Moon Quilts. We haven't met in real life yet, but we've become pretty good blogging buddies...and we do get to meet at a retreat this summer. I can't wait to meet her. We have so much in common, I know it's going to be a blast!

I hope I did everything on this right. I blog over at Typepad, so I will have a little learning curve on Blogger!

Can't wait to play with all of you!

  1. Nice to meet you, Stephanie!! I am impressed that you were able to take quilting in High School. My very first attempt was in 6th grade in Home Economics class, which no longer exists. The class that is, I still have the project. I won't tell you what year that was, but it was a very long time ago. Anyway, glad to hear that there is another newbie to the Bee process. It will be fun learning from everyone!!

  2. It's great to "meet" another Bee member Stephanie. I am new to this also, so we can all help each other, okay?
I met Shelly at a retreat last summer, so that is our connection. WE will be meeting in real NEXT month at the retreat!

  4. I can't wait to meet you Mary and Shelly! Thanks for inviting me to play along! And by the way, I made a mistake...I was a junior in high school in 1982, not 1986. And although Home Ec was still taught back then, I never took it through high school. I actually took the class at a quilt/fabric shop in my town. Egad. I'm older than I want to admit, I guess! LOL! Thank you for the warm welcome!

  5. So nice to meet you and glad you're joining us! No quilts in home ec for me...sewed a book bag, made biscuits and orange juliuses, but no quilts. Darn! It'll be fun to see what you come up with for us. :)

  6. Nice to hear that even though you've been quilting for a long time, you still have more to learn! Quilting can never get boring that way! So nice to meet you!

  7. No quilts in home ec for me either. Had to sew a lot of Simplicity before I discovered the joy of quilting. So glad you are in this group, Stephanie. Am feeling right at home again with you midwestern gals!
